Remix culture should be made a regular part of everyday art and music. Most of the time the music that is being made that copies or has a sampling from another work of music is only because of the respect an artist has for another. By using their music and flipping it around a bit, an artist shows their roots, where they came from, and what styled their influences. If the media was not so money hungry and not everything revolved around making more money then the next artist, music would be so much better. They say copying is the biggest form of flattery, so why not make something you find beautiful, into something that you can call your won.
Sampling is just another part of music, by using other flows from different and older artist we take a step back into a time machine and find ourselves swaying with the likes of Marvin Gaye, The Isley brothers, Etta James, Aaliyah, all of these artist who I love have been sampled by other artist who show their devotion to the works of these late great artist. Sampling music brings together those from different generation to enjoy something universal, such as music. The one tying factor that has always brought happiness, sadness and all other types of emotion to people across generational gaps.
Remixing and Sampling not only brings the generational gap closer, but also institutes a place for convergence culture to take place. Real artist pride themselves in making music as real as possible. Instead of just sampling a beat, recreating a beat using the original instruments along with modern day beats and instruments to make it your own, while still paying homage to a musical idol. New media playing along older media so as to create something that knows no bounds and can infect the soul of all who hear it.
Artist are now taking it a further step and recreating verses that had already been written. Listening to certain songs and hearing the words that give you chills up and down your spine and you find yourself asking, how did he think of that. Then later hearing the exact same verse by another artist, weather you appreciate the new idea or find it disrespectful, we find ourselves falling more and more in love with the verse.
Sampling music is one way of showing gratitude for all of the work that an artist has done, and letting them know that they will live on. Unfortunately music does die off and people may forget the music of the great artists of today, but with sampling and remixing they will be able to live on for the generations ahead of us.
